Sunday, 9/29/2013

Day 272, 9/29/2013 - Eat, a quick protein bar on the way to church, where I would be blessed with the music. The choir sang one of my favorite anthems, "Be Thou My Vision " by John Rutter. The amazing trumpeter would play "Amazing Grace" and "How Great Thou Art" and cause goose bumps on my arms and joy in my heart. I met friends, Lynn and Marilyn for lunch at Thai Banana Leaf. Lynn and Marilyn shared one of their Clay Pot dishes with fried rice, veggies and several meats. I chose the Pad Thai with shrimp. I got to enjoy some of the leftovers for dinner, delicious. Pray, I pray that I will always wait to hear someone's story before anything. We all have a story, a journey if you will, that leads us to the next path in our life. I am at the doorway of my next path. What is behind me is not gone from my memory and what is before me is not yet revealed. But where I am is where I need to be for now. So I will go forward with positive thoughts for a great future. Joy, my joy today was in talking and catching up with my good friend, Anne. We can always catch up as if no time has passed and have known each other forever. I think of her often and am so glad we were able to talk for over an hour today.

Saturday, 9/28/2013

Day 271, 9/28/2013 - Eat, since Kari spent the night we prepared egg, sausage and cheese muffin sandwiches for brunch. Kendra was able to color my hair today, yay! Afterwards, we enjoyed Red Robin appetizers for a late lunch/early dinner. Pray, prayers for my good friend, Kendra. She is going through some difficulties and must wait before further testing can be done. Waiting is the hardest part of any medical situation! Joy, my joy today was in getting my hair done. Who doesn't enjoy getting their hair done?

Friday, 9/27/2013

Day 270, 9/27/2013 - Eat, you know it's fall when Starbucks has pumpkin bread and pumpkin lattes. I enjoyed both today, delicious. Had some leftover cheeseburger pasta for lunch. Dinner was with Kari at a new Italian place close to my home, Apollonia's Italian Kitchen. We shared delicious Tomatoes, with basil and mozzarella for appetizer.  I had the Pasta Carbonara and Kari had the Meatballs and Spaghetti. We decided to share a Pistachio Cannoli for dessert with Cappuccino. All of the food, even the items we shared had great taste and presentation. We were greeted by the owner and entertained by a "Rat Pack" singer singing songs of the famous Rat Pack of the 60s. Very enjoyable evening. Pray, I pray that I will always maintain my integrity in whatever I do and wherever I go. My friend, Kari told me that she admired me for maintaining my integrity during my divorce. It is the hardest thing I ever did, so I pray that I will always be able to maintain my integrity. Our integrity is perhaps the most important part of us. Joy, my joy was in the discovery of another great restaurant.

Day 269, 9/26/2013 - Eat, needing some comfort food, I got Whataburger for breakfast. Sausage biscuit and potatoes with sausage gravy, yum. Why do all the fattening foods taste so good? I finally made it to the grocery store. I fell for the advertising of the skillet pasta dishes and prepared one, Cheeseburger Pasta, with "liquid gold" cheese. It was ok but not as good as the commercials make it sound. Pray, I pray for good rest and sleep tonight. I have been going too strong since my latest accident which has taken its toll on me physically and mentally. Joy, my joy was simple, having an evening home with no rehearsals or commitments, priceless!

Wednesday, 9/25/2013

Day 268, 9/25/2013 - Eat, had a left over mini cheeseburger and fries for a late lunch. Had late dinner at Chili's with Lynn with Maddie serving us. We shared the turkey club sandwich so we could have dessert. We chose something they had run out of so we were comped two desserts instead. The brownie with ice cream and the chocolate molten cake. Good times! Pray, I pray that the medication prescribed today will help alleviate the inflammatory condition I am having with my foot. Joy, my joy today, of course, was in dinner with two of my favorite people, Lynn and Maddie.

Tuesday, 9/24/2013

Day 267, 9/24/2013 - Eat, got breakfast and lunch with one stop shopping at Starbucks. Had oatmeal and coffee for breakfast and tried one of their hot paninis for lunch. All very satisfying. Met my Tuesday rehearsal buddies at Texas Roadhouse for dinner. I had the mini cheeseburgers and loaded fries. All that high fat food sure taste good. I really need to cut down. Pray, I pray that I will make myself get more rest this week so that my body can recover physically and mentally from recent events. Joy, I continue to enjoy the fall like weather. Beautiful warm days and cool nights. Wonderful!

Monday, 9/23/2013

Day 266, 9/23/2013 - Eat, light meals during the day. Prepared breakfast for dinner of scrambled eggs. I really must do some grocery shopping as that was all I had to prepare. Pray, I pray for all those who have been through or are going through cancer. I watch Dancing with the Stars on Monday nights and was moved to tears while watching Valerie Harper. She has such resolve and conviction given the cards she has been dealt, real chutzpah. I can only aspire to be at that level. I think it will require much less complaining on my part. Joy, silly but true, my joy today is in fresh new episodes of my favorite TV shows. My cheap guilty pleasure!

Sunday, 9/22/2013

Day 265, 9/22/2013 - Eat, went to lunch with good friend, Sue after church. Another new discovery. We went for Tex-Mex at a place that was no longer in business. We then discovered a Thai place down the way from the closed restaurant,  Saucy's Thai & Pho. We had their crispy shrimp for an appetizer. Sue had a salad and I ordered Pad Thai with shrimp. Another good find for lunch options during the work week or after church on Sundays. Pray, prayers of thanksgiving as I got a good night's rest last night. Joy, my joy is in the fall like weather today. It is beautiful, sunny with high of 82. May be the only fall like day we get so I will soak it up!

Saturday, 9/21/2013

Day 264, 9/21/2013 - Eat, quick coffee and protein bar before a 3 hour chorus rehearsal. Had the leftover pizza and quepapas for lunch. My stamina still suffering, I took a 2 hour nap. I love naps! Marilyn and I originally planned to meet at Carrabba's for dinner but with the balloon festival going on traffic and restaurants were packed. We discovered a new Italian place by accident, Russo's. Oh my, so many choices, so little time. We had prosciutto wrapped cheese with fresh basil & tomatoes and garlic bread knots for appetizers. We shared a wonderful bottle of Ruffino Chianti with appetizers and dinner. I chose the pasta carbonara for dinner. We let our food settle so we could have their wonderful Red Velvet cake for dessert. OMG, everything was so good! We enjoyed opening night at the Plano Symphony after our early dinner. Pray, I continue to pray for healing of my soft tissue injuries. I pray that I will be diligent in getting enough restorative rest. Joy, my joy was in the discovery of a new restaurant. Will definitely go back.

Friday, 9/20/2013

Day 263, 9/20/2013 - Eat, remember chicken nuggets? My kids used to order them all of the time. Well, I found some in the freezer at work and I had nothing else to eat. I learned earlier in the week that not eating causes wicked headaches. So, I had me some nuggets, they weren't bad and satisfied my hunger until I got home. Once home I didn't want to go anywhere so I ordered pizza in. My favorite thin crust veggie pizza, quepapas (yummy potato pods), boneless wings and cinnamon sticks. Went into a carb coma afterward, haha! Pray, I pray for good rest tonight before a rehearsal tomorrow morning. Joy, sometimes joy is in being by myself and that was the case tonight. A restful Friday evening just me, myself and I!

Thursday, 9/19/2013

Day 262, 9/19/2013 - Eat, had my leftover Applebee's Mac & Cheese for lunch. No chicken left, just bacon. Oh darn, mac & cheese with bacon, one word, yum! Dinner was at Main Street Bistro where I met my twin moms for a MMDU (Mid Month Drama Update). We had drinks and several appetizers as we caught up on each other. Pork quesadillas,  hummus,  shrimp, spinach and artichoke dip, delicious. Pray, I pray that our friend, Angie feel better as she continues her prescribed treatments. Joy, my joy was in being with my fellow mothers of multiples tonight. Such a supportive group through thick and thin!

Wednesday, 9/18/2013

Day 261, 9/18/2013 - Eat, had lunch with my sister at Applebee's.  I'm so glad that the rest of the community is discovering how wonderful mac & cheese is...lol. I had a new dish Mac & Cheese with honey grill chicken. Yum! A good visit with my sister also. Dinner was Wednesday with Maddie and Lynn. Guess it was Mac & Cheese day for me. I tried Chili's mac & cheese for dinner. Not quite as good as lunch, but ok. Enjoyed the company as always. Pray, I pray for healing and return of my stamina. Joy, I enjoy my Wednesdays and being with those who are always happy to see me. An extra bonus was meeting my sister for lunch, which was long overdue.

Tuesday, 9/18/2013

Day 260, 9/17/2013 - Eat, I resolved to not skip meals today as getting a headache yesterday hampered my productivity. To Starbucks I went for one stop shopping. Breakfast was one of their protein shakes and got an egg salad sandwich for lunch. I liked the "fortune cookie" saying on the wrapper, "Enjoy more. Worry less." Met my rehearsal buddies at Rosa's Cafe for Taco Tuesday. Such a good deal and delicious.  Pray, prayers of thanksgiving that had no headache today. Joy, my joy was in the first rehearsal of the new season with Concert Bells of Fort Worth. I am hopeful for a good year with the Christmas season just around the bend.

Monday, 9/16/2013

Day 259, 9/16/2013 - Eat, had a big blueberry muffin for breakfast. In retrospect I realize I should have had some protein. By the time I had my late lunch I had developed a rip roaring headache. So grateful to my boss, Terry for bringing me a Muffaletta from Jason's Deli. Dinner was at Yvonne's house. We had chili cheese dogs and cosmos while we watched the new season of Dancing With The Stars. Something a little strange about enjoying chili dogs while watching people dance their butts off...lol. Pray, prayers of thanksgiving that my headache resolved after eating some food. Joy, my joy was in spending the evening with my good friend, Yvonne. I am so fortunate to have friends who support and bless me each day.

Sunday, 9/15/2013

Day 258, 9/15/2013 - Eat, had breakfast at church after warm up rehearsal for handbell choir. Mary Beth prepared wonderful homemade turnovers with apples, peaches and plums. Fresh fruit was also available. I will need to ramp up my game when it is time for me to provide the breakfast item. For lunch I went to Casa Cha Cha (Rough Tex-Mex) near my home. I asked the owner one time where they got the name from. He replied, "It is our dog's name." I noticed the menu cover today...lol! I had the Maria plate with cheese enchilada, cheese taco, beef taco, guacamole tostada and rice and beans. Filled with my carbs for the day I went home and enjoyed a long Sunday afternoon nap. Pray, I pray for continued healing and restoration for my body following my latest incident. My stamina has really suffered. Perhaps I need more patience. Joy, my joy was in ringing an original composition this morning, "Prelude on Lobe den Herren" conducted by the resident composter, Harold Lucky. It really came together with all of the instruments, handbells, organ, trumpet and timpani.

Saturday, 9/14/2013

Day 257, 9/14/2013, Eat, had the second of two Kolaches purchased on Friday on the run as I ran out the door to do some banking prior to purchasing my new vehicle. After a long afternoon at the dealership, I met son, James at Rockfish for dinner. I got the blackened shrimp with cheese grits and sausage gravy. Sounded a bit weird but was delicious! Pray, I pray that my choice in vehicle will serve me well for years to come. I chose a Honda Accord. I feel comfortable driving it after driving SUV vehicles for the past 9 years. Joy, my joy was in having dinner with James and sharing the excitement of having a brand new car. I can count on one hand the number of NEW cars that I have purchased. 1) 1980 Toyota Corolla 2) 1989 Ford Aerostar 3) 2005 Honda Pilot and now 4) 2013 Honda Accord.

Friday, 9/13/2013

Day 256, 9/13/2013, Eat, I was weak and stopped at the donut shop this morning to get my favorite jalapeño Kolache. One for breakfast and one for later. The time has come to shop for a new vehicle and my good friend, Alys was convinced to look with me for the price of dinner. We went for a late dinner at Thai's Thumbz. I chose the Pad Thai with shrimp and Alys chose Pad Woonsen with beef. Their kitchen closed at 10 but we were able to enjoy their Sweet Sticky Rice with Coconut Ice Cream. Pray, I pray for guidance as I choose a new vehicle that will serve me well for years to come. Joy, my joy is in my friend, Alys going car shopping with me. I was able to make a decision on car vs. CR-V. It was a big decision after being involved in two accidents in the past two years. I will go tomorrow morning to make my final choice.

Thursday, 9/12/2013

Day 255, 9/12/2013 - Eat, not much to eat while at work. Had to pick up certified mail from post office by 5 pm. That is a challenge when the mail is in Richardson and I work in Farmers Branch, about 25-30 minutes away. I made it as they were locking the door and a postal worker took pity on me and retrieved my envelope. I am grateful to that government employee. Met friend, Marilyn at Ye Shire Tavern for dinner. I chose the shrimp and chips, a great choice. Since I am still taking medication due to my latest incident I ordered Sprite with splash of Cranberry served in a martini glass from bartender friend, Bruce. He called it the Placebo Cosmo. The name made us laugh, and I needed a good laugh. Laughter the best medicine. Pray, prayers of thanksgiving for the Post Office employee that went above and beyond to help me today. Joy, my joy was in having dinner with a friend. We all have to eat and I am learning that I don't always have to have an alcoholic beverage to accompany good food. I can have a Placebo Cosmo instead!

Wednesday, 9/11/2013

Day 254, 9/11/2013 - Eat, feeling the need for breakfast, drove through Sonic for a breakfast Crescent sandwich meal. Their coffee is not bad, better than it used to be. After Wednesday rehearsals met my friend, Lynn at Chili's for a late dinner. Yay, Maddie was our server! We shared the Triple Dipper with Guacamole Slider, Southwest Egg rolls and Honey Chipotle boneless wings. We also had the hot fresh pretzel sticks with cheese. As usual, too much food. Great to see Maddie and Lynn! Pray, prayers of thanksgiving as I am finally done with a two year long insurance claim within the two year deadline. My plea to all: Do anything you can to prevent ever being in an auto accident. Having an accident that takes two years out of your life to recover is not fun. Joy, my joy is in being chosen again to be in Concert Bells of Fort Worth. I hope for another good year with the group.

Tuesday, 9/10/2013

Day 253, 9/10/2013 - Eat, didn't eat much during the day. My Tuesday rehearsal buddies met at Fortune Star Buffet for dinner before the annual audition for Concert Bells of Fort Worth tonight. I am still recovering and not 100% but did my best. According to Karen, Fortune Star was not as good as it used to be, it was just OK in my book. Pray, prayers that I do well in my audition. I prepared as best I could. Joy, my joy is in my network of friends in Concert Bells. Since 2008 they have been there with me and for me through the many changes and happenings in my life that could have never been predicted.

Monday, September 9, 2013

Monday, 9/9/2013

Day 252, 9/9/2013 - Eat, got some comfort food at Panera for lunch after an appointment. 1/2 tuna sandwich and white cheddar mac & cheese. I splurged and got a shortbread cookie for an afternoon snack. Dinner was leftovers of cajun chicken pasta and stuffed jalapeños. Pray, prayers that I get a good night of rest and have more energy tomorrow than I did today. Joy, my joy is in getting "feel better" thoughts and wishes from my friend, Karen. I am blessed with good friends.

Sunday, 9/8/2013

Day 251, 9/8/2013 - Eat, had a late lunch with friends at Chili's. We shared their new Reese's Molten Chocolate Cake for dessert, yum. For dinner ate lite having cereal. Pray, continued prayers for healing from recent injuries. Joy, my joy is the friends and family that I have who support me and lift me up when I am down.

Saturday, 9/7/2013

Day 250, 9/7/2013 - Eat, lunch was provided for Concert Bells of Fort Worth from Jason's Deli. I chose a chicken salad sandwich with a cookie and chips. For dinner I enjoyed another meal from Ye Shire Tavern provided by my friend, Michelle. It hit the spot, beef short ribs, peas and potatoes. Pray, prayers of thanksgiving that I was able to make it through the concert in spite of recent injuries. Joy, my joy was in turning the page on my "Plan B" calendar to September. Words for September,  "Age Is Nothing but a State of Mind...I do remember a few milestone birthdays--you know 18, 21, 40...But in my head nothing has ever changed. I keep wondering when everyone is going to catch on to the fact that for the last 30 years I've been masquerading as an adult." This reminds me that we remain the same inside, we just have to let our inner youth out and not let our age define us.

Friday, 9/6/2013

Day 249, 9/6/2013 - Eat, had a late lunch from Taco Bueno since I never got breakfast. My good friend, Michelle, brought me dinner in from one of our favorite places, Ye Shire Tavern. We shared the tilapia with potatoes and asparagus. Delicious as usual. Pray, I pray for rest and healing from recent injuries. Joy, my joy is in my friend, Michelle. It is so nice to have good friends like that to come and help you out when you need it the most. I am blessed!

Thursday, 9/5/2013

Day 248, 9/5/2013 - Eat,  my boss, Terry brought me a turkey sandwich from one of our favorite places, Cindi's Deli. It is a great N.Y. Delicatessen. Pray, I pray that I can make it through the next several days after an incident that I cannot speak of yet. Joy, my joy was in singing at the memorial service for our handyman, John Foster. It turned out to be a well attended service with many speaking of how John touched their lives.

Wednesday, 9/4/2013

Day 247, 9/4/2013 - Eat, busy day at the office so not much other than bars and snacks since I had an afternoon doctor's appointment. Unfortunate news, I have a stress fracture in my left foot, so need to wear a boot and see the doctor in three weeks. Bummer, got a comfort food/meal at Wendy's on the way home. No handbell or vocal choir rehearsal for me tonight. Pray, I pray that my foot heals quickly and I resolve to wear the boot as prescribed most of the time...ugh! The boot is so clunky but definitely feels better to wear it right now. Joy, my joy is in having nice place to call home so that when I need to rest and recover, I can in comfort.

Tuesday, 9/3/2013

Day 246, 9/3/2013 - Eat, protein bars and shakes until dinner with my rehearsal buddies. We chose Schlotzky's Deli for dinner, I enjoyed their small Original on jalapeño/cheese bread. Their homemade sourdough rolls and bread are the best. Pray, I prayed that foot will begin to feel better soon but made a doctor's appointment to get it checked out since it is still painful and swollen. Joy, my joy was in basking in the afterglow of my long weekend in New Orleans. I love going to new places with someone who knows their way around and it was great to be their with Marilyn and John.

Labor Day Weekend in NOLA

Day 245, 9/2/2013 - Eat, John, Marilyn and I went for an early lunch in the hotel at Drago's Seafood. John talked about how good their charbroiled oysters were and he did not lie. They were wonderful. We also shared crab and cheese dip since Marilyn detest oysters. The Fried Shrimp Remoulade Po-boy was great. We walked a bit in hopes of finding paper for our new pens. When none was found at the near by Canal Street shops I returned to the hotel to rest my foot before walking more at the airport. Once at the airport I had a New Orleans style Bloody Mary with green beans, pickled okra and an olive. Just the right spice. Since I had a lot of time to kill, I later had Corn & Clam Chowder & biscuits from Copeland's. Not bad. Pray, I pray that I have an uneventful flight. Other than the fact that it was overbooked it was fine. I could have got a $500 voucher, hotel and flight tomorrow (Tuesday) morning. Wish that I didn't need to get back for work,  it was tempting. Joy, my joy is in the entire long weekend spent with friends and my  souvenirs. One is the glass ink pen, it writes so smoothly and for several lines before needing more ink. Can't wait to have a note to send to someone.

Day 244, 9/1/2013 - Eat, lunch was at the famous Galotoire's. John wore his seersucker suit for the last time of the season and Marilyn and I dressed for the occasion as well. This is old elegant style dinning. Peter, our requested server, treated us like New Orleans royalty. I had Red Fish Almandine with lump crab meat, melt in your mouth goodness. What a treat after lunch, the Cafe Brulot. Coffee boiled with cloves, cinnamon sticks, orange, liqueurs, etc. that steep with the coffee making each cup better than the last. Peter flamed it right at the table and poured it up hot. I usually have coffee with milk but this had such a good flavor once steeped, no milk needed. Dinner was at the famous Pat O'Brians. I of course had a Hurricane to drink but did not keep the glass knowing I already had one glass to hand carry back to Dallas. We stopped by the Carousel Bar for another ride before leaving town tomorrow.

Day 243, 8/31/2013 - Eat, went to Napoleon House for lunch. We all had Pimms Cup to drink. Made with Pimm's No. 1, cucumber wheel, lemon wheel, lemon/lime soda and lemon twist, very refreshing. Shared a Muffaletta with John after the meat and cheese tray. Muffalettas are huge, we shared 1/2 so we were each full with 1/4. Visited shops and most every bought something. Mike bought quite an assortment of beads as it was Southern Decadence weekend in New Orleans. When in New Orleans, well suffice it to say, mild mannered Dr. Mike during the week, happy gay go lucky Mike when in New Orleans. We bought him a rainbow tutu and he was such a good sport to wear it the rest of the day. We all had fun watching people watch him! A great afternoon in spite of my aching foot. Dinner was at Galotoire's 33 Bar & Steak. Excellent dining experience in every way, from the host, food, service, servers, right down to the company, Marilyn and John. I had the 7 oz. Filet with sides of broccoli and potatoes au gratin, exquisite! We enjoyed cherry cheesecake paired with Elysium Black Muscat, perfect ending to our fabulous meal. Pray, continued prayers for my foot, it was quite swollen this morning and walking all day has not helped. We had another afternoon swim before going to dinner. The cool water and resting it for awhile helped. Taking a taxi to dinner also helped. Joy, my joy was in the evening dinning experience. I love to get dressed up and be treated well in a restaurant. John was such a gentleman the whole weekend. His mama raised him well!

Day 242, 8/30/2013 - Eat, made myself coffee in the room. We met John at the Rib Room for drinks before lunch there. Mike, the long time bartender was very good to us. Had my "stand by" drink, Cosmo and a new drink for me, a Sazerac. Made with exact blends of Rye Whiskey, Peychaud's Bitters, 1 sugar cube, absinth and twist of lemon peel. I was shocked that I actually liked it, however, too many could be dangerous. We had a couple of bottles of white wine with lunch, both were quite nice. I had crab cake and a Chicken Florentine entrée, both were excellent. Dinner was at Cafe Giovanni Italian. I had the Pasta Carbonara, delightful. Pray, I prayed that my foot not be too badly injured. Somewhere along our travels I stumbled coming down some stairs. Therefore I took my first ever Pedicab ride back to the hotel. Those guys work really hard for their money in my opinion. I was grateful for the ride from my friend, John. Joy, my joy was in being in and touring a city like New Orleans with friends, Jeremy, Mike, John and Marilyn. Especially John and Marilyn who know the city so well and were excellent tour guides.

Day 241, 8/29/2013 - Eat, stopped by the donut shop this morning after dropping my son, James, at the U-Haul place to pick up his moving van. I am so proud of him for getting his own apartment. He is doing so well, working and going to school. So grown up at 21, hard to believe he is all on his own. I know he is glad to no longer have roommates to deal with. No time for lunch as when I got to work all hell broke loose. The copier broke down with newsletters and church bulletins to print. A/C broke down in the newborn classroom of the pre-school. Payroll and payables to process. It doesn't sound like much as I write it down but I spent most of my day crawling around the workroom floor troubleshooting the printer problem and trying to find someone who could repair A/C today, not tomorrow or next week. I almost forgot to pay myself! Fortunate for me I have very understanding Cash Management people at our bank...yay, I will have money for my long weekend. Once at the airport I was able to relax and have a drink and some dinner before taking off for New Orleans. I had the appetizer smorgasbord. Parmesan Meatballs,  Bruschetta and Bacon Mac & Cheese bites. As usual , ordered too much, left some behind. Arrived in New Orleans and we went for a late night drink at the Carousel Bar at the Hotel Monteleone. With seats for about 25 guest you hop on for a ride for as many drinks as you dare. It takes about 20 minutes to make a revolution. I had their specialty drink, the Fleur de lis. Hendricks gin, St. Germaine, etc.  Pray, I frantically prayed during the day that things would get fixed and I would accomplish everything in time. Prayers answered, praise the Lord. Joy, my joy is in getting away for a long weekend. I look forward to fun and relaxation.
